By Aapt Dubey · Updated · 11 sources
Gurgaon has two working metro systems: the Delhi Metro Yellow Line, which ends at Millennium City Centre Gurugram, and the 11-station Rapid Metro, which carried 88.81 lakh passengers in April to August 2026. The new 28.5 km, 27-station Gurugram Metro, approved at ₹5,452 crore in June 2023, was only 3.3% complete in June 2026, with Phase 1 due in 2028.

What metro lines run in Gurgaon today?
Two. The Delhi Metro Yellow Line enters Gurgaon at Guru Dronacharya and runs through Sikanderpur, MG Road and IFFCO Chowk to its terminal, Millennium City Centre Gurugram. That station was called HUDA City Centre until DMRC renamed it in July 2023, and it is the end point of the 49 km Yellow Line.
The second is Rapid Metro, an 11-station loop that links Sikanderpur to DLF Cyber City and runs down Golf Course Road to Sector 55-56. Phase 1, about 5.1 km, opened on 14 November 2013. A roughly 7 km Phase 2 extension along Golf Course Road opened on 31 March 2017. Published lengths for the full line vary between sources, so we quote the phases rather than a single total. Rapid Metro is owned by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), and operations are moving from DMRC to Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL).
That is the whole network. Old Gurgaon, Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Dwarka Expressway and New Gurgaon have no metro station today. If a brochure says 'metro connectivity' for any of those, it means a planned line.
Rapid Metro Gurgaon ridership
Ridership is rising steadily. HMRTC's board was told that Rapid Metro carried 8,881,000 passengers between April and August 2026, up 11.62% from 7,957,000 in the same months of 2025. That works out to roughly 58,000 journeys a day on average (our calculation over 153 days).
Revenue followed. Revenue from operations was ₹18.6 crore for April to August 2026, against ₹16.66 crore a year earlier, and non-fare revenue (station rentals, advertising) grew 64.34%. A year earlier, HMRTC reported 62.49 lakh commuters for April to July 2025, a 13.59% rise on 2024.
For context, 58,000 a day is modest for a line that serves Cyber City and Golf Course Road. The line does not reach most residential sectors, so for most residents it is a last-mile connector from the Yellow Line rather than a commute in itself.

New Gurugram Metro: Millennium City Centre to Cyber City
This is the project that matters for Old Gurgaon and the Dwarka Expressway side. The Union Cabinet approved it on 7 June 2023: 28.50 km and 27 stations, entirely elevated, standard gauge, at a total completion cost of ₹5,452 crore. The main corridor from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City is 26.65 km with 26 stations, and a 1.85 km spur from Basai village towards Dwarka Expressway serves the depot.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone on 16 February 2024. GMRL cast the first pile in Sector 45 in February 2026, and the stretch from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 alone needs about 3,000 piles and around 750 pillars.
The Cabinet note said the project would be completed in four years from sanction, which would have meant 2027. That will not happen. A Rajya Sabha reply put physical progress at 3.3% as of June 2026, and Business Standard reports Phase 1 is now scheduled for completion in 2028.
| Section | Length (km) | Stations | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main corridor: Millennium City Centre to Cyber City | 26.65 | 26 | Elevated |
| Spur: Basai village to Dwarka Expressway | 1.85 | 1 | Elevated |

Gurugram Metro Phase 1 and Phase 2: status in October 2026
The corridor is being built in two phases. Phase 1 runs from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 with 14 stations, passing Unitech Cyber Park, Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase VI and Basai village. It is under construction with a 2028 target.
Phase 2 is the 15.3 km elevated stretch from Sector 9 towards DLF Cyber City with 14 stations. In October 2026 the Haryana government cleared a ₹1,662 crore civil works package so GMRL could float the tender, after the World Bank completed its scrutiny of the documents in July. Business Standard also reports that the state chose to acquire some land under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act after private owners refused to sell.
Our honest read for buyers: Phase 1 stations along Sector 45 to Sector 9 and the Dwarka Expressway side may open around 2028 if the schedule holds. Phase 2 has not yet awarded civil works, so price in nothing for it before 2029 or 2030.

Is there a metro on Dwarka Expressway?
Not yet. Two lines touch it on paper. The first is the spur of the new Gurugram Metro from Basai village towards Dwarka Expressway, part of the approved 28.50 km project.
The second is a separate link from Rezang La Chowk in Palam Vihar to Dwarka Sector 21. Haryana's Cabinet approved its DPR in October 2022: 8.40 km, of which 4 km runs from Palam Vihar to Sector 111 and 4.40 km from Sector 111 to Sector 21 Dwarka, with 7 stations and a gross project cost of ₹1,541 crore including the state's share. It would interchange with the Blue Line and Airport Express at Dwarka Sector 21 and the Airport Express at IECC. In January 2026 HMRTC approved revisions to the DPR because the alignment and technical assumptions had changed, so the 2022 numbers are likely to move.
For Dwarka Expressway buyers in Sectors 99 to 113, the Sector 21 link is the more useful of the two because it ties into the airport line. It has no construction contract yet.
What the metro plans mean for property prices
Metro announcements move prices well before trains run, and Gurgaon has a long history of approved lines that took a decade to start. The Gurugram Metro was approved in 2023, had 3.3% physical progress in mid 2026 and now targets 2028 for Phase 1 alone.
Our advice: value a home on the connectivity it has today, and treat a metro station within walking distance as an upside that may arrive in three to five years. Homes near Rapid Metro on Golf Course Road and near the Yellow Line on MG Road are the only ones where metro access is a present fact.
Frequently asked questions
Phase 1, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is scheduled for completion in 2028 according to an October 2026 Business Standard report. Phase 2, from Sector 9 to Cyber City, was still at the tender stage in October 2026, and the whole project had 3.3% physical progress as of June 2026.
The approved project is 28.50 km with 27 stations: a 26.65 km main corridor with 26 stations and a 1.85 km spur from Basai village towards Dwarka Expressway. It was approved by the Union Cabinet on 7 June 2023.
The approved total completion cost is ₹5,452 crore (June 2023). In October 2026 Haryana cleared a separate ₹1,662 crore civil works package for Phase 2.
Rapid Metro carried 88.81 lakh passengers between April and August 2026, up 11.62% on the same period of 2025. That averages roughly 58,000 journeys a day.
Rapid Metro has 11 stations on a single line from Sikanderpur through DLF Cyber City and down Golf Course Road to Sector 55-56. Phase 1 opened in November 2013 and the Golf Course Road extension in March 2017.
No metro runs on Dwarka Expressway yet. A spur of the new Gurugram Metro and a separate 8.40 km, 7-station Palam Vihar to Dwarka Sector 21 link are planned; the latter's DPR was revised in early 2026 and has no construction contract.
DMRC renamed HUDA City Centre as Millennium City Centre Gurugram in July 2023. It is the terminal station of the 49 km Yellow Line.
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) is building the Millennium City Centre to Cyber City corridor. The Cabinet note named HMRTC, a 50:50 joint venture of the central and Haryana governments, as the implementing agency.
How we compiled these figures
Project scope and cost come from the Union Cabinet decision of 7 June 2023. Progress and schedule come from a Rajya Sabha reply (via UNI, July 2026), Business Standard (October 2026) and Indian Infrastructure (February 2026). Rapid Metro ridership and revenue are HMRTC board figures as reported by Construction World and The Tribune. Daily averages are our own division of reported totals by days in the period. Station names are from DMRC announcements. Reviewed quarterly, or sooner when GMRL awards contracts or opens stations.
